We’re excited to announce that we will be rolling out our new Relevel tool in beta from Wednesday, May 21. This tool is designed to enhance the classroom experience for English Language Learners (ELL), Special Education (SPED) students, and all learners, while keeping your educators firmly in control of the features available to their students.
About the beta program
The Relevel tool we’re enabling for teachers and students will sit in the Kami Toolbar in a new section labelled ‘Understand’ and joins the Translate, Explain and Summarize tools. The Relevel tool will let teachers and students change the difficulty level of text without altering the curriculum and will include this additional functionality:
- Read Aloud
- Copy and paste the tool’s output
- Save the tool output to a comment for side-by-side comparison
- Select by word or area
You can share this handout with your teaching staff if needed. It outlines all ‘Understand’ tools and their classroom applications.
Beta disclaimer: Please note that these are Beta features, currently in an early access phase. While designed to enhance the classroom experience, they may still have some limitations or produce occasional unexpected results. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to refine and improve these tools.
Full Feature Control for Teachers
We understand that not every tool is suitable for every classroom. The new ‘Understand’ tools are fully feature-controllable, allowing teachers to enable or disable specific tools to suit their students’ needs and classroom goals.
License Admins also have full control over which groups (teachers, students, or individuals) can access the ‘Understand’ tools via the newly released Feature Permissions in your license dashboard.

Underlying Technology
Our ‘Understand’ tools use a large language model AI service. Students do not have access to a ‘Chat bot’ nor is any private Teacher or Student information requested or retained by the AI service.
