Troubleshooting Common Chromebook Problems

Chromebook's issues are relatively simple to overcome. This guide will assist you with some of the most common issues found in daily Chromebook users. 

Chromebook runs very slowly

  1.  Press and Hold the Power button.
  2. The screen dims, and a pop-up appears. Select "Shut down" to Power off.
  3.  Press the Power button to turn it back on.

If that doesn't work, check for a system update. It will ask you to restart to complete the update.

  1.  Select the system clock.
  2.  Select the Gear icon located at the bottom. This will take you to the settings.
  3.  Either scroll down on the left and select "About ChromeOS" or enter "Update" in the search bar.
  4.  Select "Check for updates". This checks for the latest ChromeOS version and installs any updates.
  5.  Once the update is completed, select the Restart button to complete. 

"ChromeOS is missing or damaged" Message

LED light is white, but the Chromebook screen is black

  1. Turn off your Chromebook by holding down the Power button. 
  2. Press and hold the Refresh button and then tap the Power button.
  3. Once the Chromebook starts, release the Refresh button. 

If none of this resolves your issue and you can tell your Chromebook is still working by noise or LED light indicators, please create a Support Ticket and the Technology team will gladly assist you. 

Camera, Microphone, or Touchpad is not working

  1. Turn off your Chromebook by holding down the Power button. 
  2. Press and hold the Refresh button and then tap the Power button.
  3. Once the Chromebook starts, release the Refresh button. 
Log in as a guest

click the Browse as Guest option on the login screen. If the keyboard or touchpad troubles are gone, then delete your account and add it back to the Chromebook.

No sound when playing a video/song

  1. Click on the System clock (the time) in the bottom corner of the screen. 
  2. Adjust the Volume slider displayed on the pop-up menu. Make sure the volume is not muted and turned up high enough to hear.
